In the news…”50 Ways to Teach With Current Events” brought to you by the New York Times Posted on October 14th, 2014 by

Since we are in a Social Studies Methods course, this was a great article to come across. This article provides links in categories from Reading and Writing, Speaking and Listening, Games and Quizzes, etc. While some of these may be a bit harder to do with say Kindergarteners, there may be ways in which you may adapt these ideas to fit students’ needs and abilities. These may also be ways to allow for families to work and learn together. Even your young students could be journalists. Take a look and find things that may work in your classroom!

Thanks for sharing Steph! I have thought a lot during practicum about where social studies and even science fit into a kindergarten class that is so focused on routines, math and literacy. I think you have to be very intentional about your other lessons and make them interdisciplinary when you have such a small amount of extra time to work with for those concepts.
