Echoes of Spain performance Posted on October 13th, 2014 by

Sunday evening (Oct. 12th) there was a beautiful Flamenco performance done in Alumni Hall. Flamenco is a type of dance that originated in southern Spain in Andalusia. I was able to study abroad in this province and flamenco dancing became apart of my every day life. This performance was terrific and made me extremely nostalgic. There were two women who danced and two men who dances and sang. Moreover, the guitarist was a famous gypsy guitarist from Granada (One of my favorite cities that I visited). In my opinion, there is nothing more hauntingly gorgeous than the lully of their voices as they shut their eyes and sing from their soul. Because southern Spain is so close to Moracco, this singing as an Islamic-chant feel and I adore this kind of music. Yesterday’s performance was packed and it was so great to hear this music again. The festive dresses, the stomping, the fast guitar-playing and the chants really hit home for me. This was a Gustavus event that I am glad I didn’t miss!!
