Immigration and Ellis Island Teaching Ideas Posted on October 16th, 2013 by

Hello All,

Today we talked about immigration and Ellis Island.  Although we thought of many good ideas of lesson plans we could teach to our students on this topic, I wanted to go on-line and find more.  I found a virtual tour of Ellis Island on Scholastic.com, which allows students to virtually go through each step of the immigration process and look at pictures/read about each of these steps.  This could work in connection with setting up an Ellis Island simulation in the classroom, so students could experience, on a smaller level, what the immigrants felt like.  The other resource I found with great ideas is a blog where teachers have posted immigration lessons. Enjoy these wonderful resources, there are many fantastic ideas!

Thanks for finding these helpful sites – and for connecting them to what we are doing in class.
