Shout Out: Kindergarten Practicum Posted on March 13th, 2013 by

As part of the methods course we go through a kindergarten practicum. This semester we have been placed in either a group of three or a group of four. Each group is given the opportunity to observe a kindergarten class, in which they will later be teaching a math, literacy, and thematic lesson. Up to this point each group has completed two observations and is now in the process of lesson planning.

I think each and every method student deserves a shout out for the hard work they have been putting forth this past week! At times it can be a lot on our plate with just our methods courses, and practicum can be another stressor. However, this past week I have seen everyone step up and put in a lot of extra time and effort to ensure that their lessons will be successful. Not only has there been a lot of hard work, but I have also seen some really great teaching ideas being implemented and I cannot wait to hear how they go next week. Keep up the great work and good luck next week with your lessons!

Shout out to our cooperating teachers too! They have all put in so much time getting to know us, giving us ideas on classroom management, and helping revise our lesson plans for next week too. Not every teacher would be willing to let 3 or 4 teacher candidates into their room and essentially take over for the week; we owe them so much thanks and gratitude!

I think our professors also deserve a shout out! Kindergarten practicum has been a lot of work and has caused a little bit of stress in everyone. This increase in stress has made us a little bit rowdy and snippy. At times we act like kindergartners ourselves!

It will be great to hear about everyone’s upcoming week!

I am also extremely proud of all the hard work we have been doing. I have seen a different side of a lot of methods students, one that show how hard working and determined of a group we actually are. I am so excited to teach next week and see how everything goes. I am also very anxious to see how the lessons of fellow classmates go.
