MN DNR and Education: Teaching ArcGIS (Geofest Seminar) Posted on October 17th, 2014 by

Wanting to expand my knowledge by learning what exactly GIS (Geographic Information System) and how to use it in the classroom, I attended the seminar about ArcGIS which was delivered by two Gustie Grads who now work for the Minnesota DNR. They explained that ArcGIS is an electronic system which allows anyone to access and add geographic features to base maps which are already provided in the system. This is a new movement in the Minnesota School systems because the Minnesota Board of Education working with the MN DNR in order to get this program into the schools in order to teach mapping and other geographic functions. Another fun fact is that this program, which is quite spendy, is available for free for teachers/students. So take advantage of it!
