Bullying :( Posted on October 16th, 2013 by

While I was watching the news this evening, this story came up about cyberbullying.  On September 9th, a young girl (middle school aged) jumped to her death from an abandoned concrete plant after being bullied continuously both on-line and at school.  This news story reiterates the fact of how important it is for us, as teachers, to pay attention to our students and get to know them.  If someone would have done something to stop the bullying, perhaps this young girl would not have felt that her only way out was jumping off a building.  We are role models and students are dependent on us to give them the voice they may not have at their young age.  I have also included an attachment that gives tips on how to put an end to bullying. Although we have talked about bullying in our classes, this story is a reminder of the impact bullying has on children of all ages.

I having been following this story through the news over the past couple of weeks as well. In fact, her mother posted on this young girl’s birthday this past weekend about her thoughts on the matter. As future teachers, I think this is something that we should be having a lot of dialog about because the likelihood that this subject will not affect our classrooms is minimal.Let’s keep the dialog going!

You have very effectively described the importance of learning more about dealing with bullying.
